[The racuous excuse for modern music finally drove Hannibal out into the deck, where he tightened his coat around him against the chill and looked around. There had been considerably more alcohol in that drink than he had accounted for, and so now he finds himself rather flushed and prone to...stroll...instead of properly walking over to the lift and getting out of the cold. Last time he did that he found Richie's rather overripe corpse. But chances are that he'll run into no such unpleasantness, and he is tipsy enough to truly appreciate the whirling sky.]

Made it out. [ She doesn't remember him having been one of hers, so doesn't add more. ]

You want to get out of here? It's cold. [ She worries even about people who can handle themselves, and if she waits around any longer, she'll keep wondering what's going on inside. Even if the music isn't her type - too many beeps - she still might want in. ]

In a matter of speaking, we all did. Moving along, though...you are right, let's get out of this cold. Perhaps I can interest you in some fruit and cheese? It won't take me but a few minutes to get us together a tray.

[ She tilts her head in some direction that's not here, as if to say "I'll head where you're looking to go." ] Been a while.

[cannibalmind]

It has. [He offers an arm and then leads her back toward the elevator.] By the by, you are not missing much in there, unless you have a particular love of alcohol.

[surrenders]

About what I thought. [ She's not being entirely honest. You get a group of people together, you want to take a look. That's the kind of lie that's easy to tell, though, so she doesn't even check to see if he believes her, just takes his arm with lowered eyes and lets him keep talking. It's always the older ones with manners around here. ]

[cannibalmind]

[His eyes search her face, and he smiles indulgently.] Yes, of course. [He summons the elevator with a stab of the button.] Alcohol can be had, but now and again I find myself craving a nice cigar.

[He patters on gently like that, getting her used to the sound of his voice as they wait for the elevator. But once they are within its warm privacy, his brow furrows slightly.]

I had a small request to make. It shouldn't take much, but I will owe you a favor in return.

[surrenders]

[ She just listens to him talk; there's no harm in it and she likes him well enough. The question that doesn't sound like one makes her slide back a tiny bit, though; last time a guy offered her a trade she knew what he was looking for and she doesn't want to deal with anything like that again.

But she shouldn't be that suspicious of him. He's got a reputation, but not that kind. So she keeps her distance, but looks at him again as if to ask what he's looking for. She'll probably do it. ]

I was just wondering if you would sit for some sketches. I have a fair amount of art supplies, but no models. Clothed, of course. It is for a large art project I have been working on for months.

[surrenders]

Could help you out. [ It's nothing, it really isn't. ]

[cannibalmind]

I ask for nothing more than your company and for you to sit still and occasionally tilt your chin a bit or somesuch. It's more boring than anything.

[surrenders]

[ She's good at waiting, she says with an indifferent half-shrug. ]

When?

[cannibalmind]

[He holds the elevator door for them as they walk out, heading for the kitchen and the supply of snacks.] Tomorrow after breakfast shift?

[surrenders]

[ One corner of a smile twitches up before she can stop herself: by that point, she might fall asleep. It'll make it even easier for him. ]

[ She doesn't have much else to say, but starts picking through fruit when they make it outside the kitchen. She's not really interested in eating right now, but someone that good deserves the best she can find. ]

[He scoops up a few apples and a block of cheese and goes about cutting and arranging them neatly, humming an obscure aria as he does so.] There we are...so. Have you found anything interesting to pass the time during your stay?

[surrenders]

[ She watches across from him, feeling kind of unnecessary, but even small, perfectionist jobs like this are something he's good at and she's going to stay out of the way. ]

Got to catch up. [ He might think that's interesting: he's probably more into ideas than people. ]

[cannibalmind]

Keeping an ear to the ground, then? Clever girl. There's only so much we ordinary folk can do to defend ourselves if we aren't forewarned through our own efforts. [He washes up and brings the platter over to a table.]

I myself have learned a great deal since I have been here.

[surrenders]

[ She makes no move to eat; it's a distraction and she'd rather listen. ]

About what? If it isn't too much.

[cannibalmind]

Mostly about individual people; what makes them tick. But also about the culture here. For example, we are forced to adapt to a certain...loss of control. We never know when we will wake up opposite gendered, or as animals, or as different people altogether.

Many Barge hazards can simply be mitigated by staying beneath notice. For months I managed this. But some disruptions are unavoidable. The greatest talent one can develop on this Barge is the ability to move on from events that can range from slightly disruptive to completely tragic and damaging.

[surrenders]

[ She's used to not having control over what happens, no matter how much she prepares for it. The best thing is still finding someone else to hide behind, but if you learn how to bend with it like she could in the past, you're much better off. ]

It's all you can do here. Find a way around it.

[cannibalmind]

Indeed. Easier to do when you know whom you are dealing with. Arthas for example. He tends to broadcast everything. His darker emotions are his armor. But it is when he becomes truly emotionless seeming that he must be avoided. [He nibbles on a slice of apple.]

[surrenders]

Or some people, when they get friendly. [ It's supposed to sound like conversation. ]

Mm. [One thing Lua is not is stupid. Far from it in fact...which is one of the reasons he likes talking to her.] You have I assume heard the phrase, "two heads are better than one?" Well, two sets of ears are better than one. Or four, or five, or a dozen...I'm certain you see where I am going with this.

[surrenders]

[ Oh, she knows, but while she likes him, she doesn't know what he'd do with anything she'd give him. ]

What would you want them to hear?

Stirrings of discord. Odd encounters. Disappearances. Basically warnings of trouble. One thing I cannot countenance is the way that basic information on what is going on is kept entirely to the Wardens. We would do well to be as organized, or better organized, than they when it comes to the dissemination of information.
